Richard Francis Pitchford


Richard Pitchford, known as, "Dick", was born in South Australia and, came to Mornington with his parents as a small child.

He grew up in Mornington, and from a young age worked with his father and brother in the coach building and blacksmithing business started by his father in the late 1880’s.

In 1911 he married Mary Burge.

He and Mary had two daughters, and lived at 48 Barkly Street Mornington.

He was a fine musician, and played the cornet in early Mornington bands. He is pictured (right) in the middle row, second from the left.

John and Richard went into the business together after their father died, and Richard carried on after John left the partnership in 1916.

 

Richard died at the very young age of 44 years, and is buried in the cemetery next to his wife’s parents, Richard and Mary Burge.

His wife Mary, died in 1978, aged 92 years, and is also buried with her family.
