Stephen Williams

Stephen Williams was born in 1815 in Dorset England and left England to travel to Australia, accompanied by his brother Charles in the mid 1850’s.

Stephen had married Elizabeth Ann Satchell in 1853, in Dorchester England, and she followed the two brothers to Australia in 1860, where Stephen and Charles had made their home at Schnapper Point.

Two children were born to Stephen and Ann - Jane Ann (later Jane Watson) in 1864, and Stephen Charles Smith Williams in 1868.

Both children were christened in St. Peter’s Church of England.

The Williams lived in Cromwell Street, Mornington and Stephen’s occupation was listed as shoemaker. Their son, known as Charles, was a member of the Mornington Football Club, and was one of those who drowned in the Football Disaster in 1892.

All members of the family are buried in the family grave at Mornington.
