George Taylor


George Taylor arrived in Williamstown as a child of four with his parents, aboard the ship "Westminster", in 1842.

In 1860, at the age of 22 years, George married Mary Anne Kenny, of Mornington, in the Union Church, Schnapper Point.

Mary Anne was the daughter of Captain Edward Kenny, who plied a successful coastal trade with his vessel "Yarmouth".

Grandview

"Grandview", Mt. Martha

He also established the first store in Mornington - in Vancouver Street.

Captain Kenny drowned off Mornington during a storm in 1858.

George and Mary Anne established a private guest house in their home "Grandview" Mt. Martha. They had their own cows, poultry and garden produce and the guest house was very popular.

Together, they had eleven children, with many descendants in the area.

George Taylor died in 1922, at "Grandview", at the age of 84 - a colonist of 80 years.

Mary Anne died at the age of 92 years, also at "Grandview" - a colonist of 82 years.

Both are buried in the Mornington Cemetery.
